Residents and Faculty attend topic-themed weekly conferences each Wednesday morning. Conferences include board-style review questions, lectures presented by faculty, residents, and guest lecturers, video lectures, journal club and EKG review, as well as morbidity and mortality review, quality assurance participation. Residents also attend state-wide conferences run by NY ACEP, and occasional specialty conferences hosted by specific NYC hospitals (see below), in areas of trauma, ultrasound and critical care. At least once a month, residents practice both clinical and procedural skills in the Emergency Department’s Simulation Lab and/or at the amazing IMSAL simulation center in the Bronx (see Simulation page for more information). Throughout the year, residents also participate in oral board review sessions, with immediate feedback from faculty.
Since 2011, all NYC emergency medicine residency programs get together once or twice a year for a conference with the best presenters from the region. Our very own program director, Dr. Roger Chirurgi, who won the 2011 CORD Teaching Award gave a lecture at the inaugural ALL NYC EM conference in 2011. More recently, Dr. Dahlia Eid (Class of 2014) lectured at the 2013 ALL NYC EM conference.
Since the Fall of 2015, our chief residents have created a mini-book with weekly conference summaries (see below) that can serve as reference for residents and faculty.
