Quality Improvement (Q.I.) and Patient Safety are key components to the mission of the Emergency Medicine department and the Emergency Medicine Residency Program. The quality improvement and patient safety efforts of the Emergency Medicine residents are overseen by Dr. Samrina Kahlon (Class of 2013) who is also the Patient Safety Officer at Metropolitan Hospital Center. Dr. Kahlon provides a lot of opportunities for residents to be involved in patient safety and quality improvement projects. She also launched an in-house patient safety journal (now in its third edition), featuring articles and work done by residents.
