Orientation takes place over a 4-week period prior to starting your Year 1 rotations:
  • Last 2 weeks of June:¬†Mandatory orientation for Metropolitan Hospital Center to familiarize you with the workings of the hospital, as well as to provide the mandatory certification classes (BLS/ACLS/PALS).
  • First 2 weeks of July:¬†Emergency Medicine orientation, where the faculty and senior residents give you all the information that you will need to successfully begin residency, which includes ED shadow shifts, core EM topic lectures, suture lab, splinting lab, central line and advanced airway course, introduction to ultrasound, introduction to the slit-lamp exam, and EKG reading.
